One of the most dramatic innovations of nonsurgical cosmetic treatments is laser rejuvenation. Lasers treat a multitude of conditions of photoaged skin and are effective in treating mild to moderate wrinkles, lax skin, and stimulating collagen production.
Laser therapy is also effective in treating acne and the resultant scarring. This treatment is noninvasive with no side effects and is suitable for all body areas including face and neck acne, chest acne, and back acne. The high-intensity band light source penetrates both the skin surface and ducts to destroy acne bacteria and unclog congested skin.
Medical Aesthetics uses laser photorejuvenation and Photodynamic Therapy for acne and for sun damage in combination with a skin care program, and in-office procedures. A consultation and treatment plan are necessary to ensure that the best possible schedule is obtained based on the client’s history and needs. Photorejuvenation
Photorejuvenation is a relatively new process which uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser to fade or eliminate benign pigmented spots and vascular lesions while diminishing the size of pores, sun damage, and wrinkles in your skin. Consequently, your skin becomes smoother, with a younger appearance.
Who benefits from Photorejuvenation?
Men and women of all ages who want to reverse the effects of aging, but not all are not ready for facelifts or more invasive laser resurfacing.
How does it work?
Photorejuvenation can be done with a variety of IPL devices and lasers on the market today. The most elaborate and expensive machine which allows the physician to select from the widest number of treatment choices is the Vasculight SR, built by Lumenis. We only use the Vasculight SR in our clinics to perform the Photorejuvenation.
Unlike laser resurfacing and chemical peels, the beauty of the noninvasive Photorejuvenation is that there is virtually no downtime. People who have had laser resurfacing sometimes have skin which looks like "something has been done to it". Following laser resurfacing or a deep chemical peel, one must "go into hiding" until the skin heals. The skin may not appear natural, and there can be persistent redness following laser resurfacing. Unlike laser resurfacing, the Photorejuvenation has minimal discomfort with an absence of scarring, leaving the skin looking younger and healthier immediately. The improvement in the skin quality is more dramatic than what can be accomplished with microdermabrasion alone.
Microdermabrasion is wonderful for surface irregularities, but it cannot eliminate conditions such as redness, flushing, broken capillaries, or promote the formation of new collagen in the dermis.
Photorejuvenation selectively targets abnormal changes that develop with age and successfully improves fine lines, sun-damage, age spots, the symptoms of rosacea, broken veins, enlarged pores, and numerous other facial flaws.
Photorejuvenation causes new cells to form; it also stimulates the creation of collagen in the dermis, this gives the skin a better texture.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
Developed at Queen’s University in the early 1990’s. Levulan activated by light, effectively treats sun damage and pre-cancerous lesions both visible and microscopic. Levulan combined with IPL treatments dramatically change the landscape of our skin with about 2 days of redness and flaking.
Levulan and IPL - add $200 per treatment to Photorejuvenation (medication cost.)
